Stevens Pass Teton Gravity Research Shoot
Stevens Pass teams up with Teton Gravity Research and BlueSky Creative to shoot the first ever side-by-side 3D RED ski film footage. They used the beautiful Bell 407 helicopter to chase the acrobatic skiers as they flew high above the 30ft gap jump. Stevens Pass did a similar style shoot with TGR last season but I didn't get the chance to check it out. So I was excited to hear that TGR was back for another filming session at Stevens Pass. I grabbed my gear and headed up to see the A-Team in action on a sunny May 11th 2010.
I skied up to the jumps location in Big Chief Bowl to have a look. The sky was deep blue and the cumulus clouds were doing their dance along the ridge tops, it was a spectacular weather day. When I got to the top and saw the jump I knew I wanted to get as high an angle as I could. I mostly wanted to shoot the athletes jumping but also get the chopper in the image. I have to say that I was impressed by how efficient this team worked. They really maximized getting all the filming in they possibly could. The still pictures below don't fully express how many times these guys can spin in the air but it gives you a glimpse of their athleticism, enjoy!

... How to make a skier smoothie: Put a chopper above a jump, throw in a gap gap jumper, dice, and ahhh... it's so bloody good. |

... Great shots Shane! Hard enough to send a huge gap, but to know you have a helicopter cutting in front of you at the same time...sick. |
